Your boards stay on your device
Your boards, and everything on them (photos, videos, recordings, files, notes, whys and drawings), are saved in the browser you made them in, on that device. They aren't sent to Boro's server, and I can't see them. That also means:
- Another browser or device won't have them. Accounts and syncing across devices are coming, and this page will say what changes before they do.
- Clearing this site's data deletes them. Some browsers also clear a site's data on their own when space runs low, or when you haven't visited for a while.
- To keep a copy somewhere safe, download a backup from All boards. A backup is a file on your device, and it's yours.
When you share a board
Making a view-only link sends a copy of that board and its files to Boro's server, where it's stored privately with Vercel, Boro's host. Anyone with the link can look at the board and play what's on it. It isn't listed anywhere, and search engines are asked not to show it.
Your changes reach the copy a few seconds after you make them. Stop sharing deletes the copy and all its files. Only the browser that made the link (or one you restore its backup into) can change it or take it down.
Because the copy is on Boro's server, I can get to it. I'll only look at a shared board when it's been reported, or to fix something that's gone wrong.
Links, previews and players
- When you add a link, Boro's server visits that page to read its title and picture. The site sees a visit from Boro's server, not from you. Pins and boards you bring in from Pinterest are read the same way.
- Pictures you add by their address, link pictures and Pinterest pictures load from the sites they're on, so those sites see your browser ask for them, as they would on any web page.
- YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud links play in those services' own players. A player loads from its service when the board shows it, and that service's own privacy policy covers what it collects, including any cookies it sets.
Counting visits
Boro uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits: which pages are opened, which site sent you, and your country, device type and browser. It doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't follow you to other sites.
Boro also shows how many people are on it now and how many have opened it so far. For that, your browser keeps a random code and sends it every half minute while Boro is open. The code isn't linked to your name, your boards or anything you add, and it's only counted, never shown. Clearing this site's data in your browser gives you a new one.
Cookies
Boro sets one cookie, called boro, once you've opened a board, so the next time you come back you go straight to your boards instead of the front page. It holds nothing else, and it lasts a year. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Hosting
Boro runs on Vercel. Like any website, it receives your IP address and your browser's details with every request. Vercel uses them briefly to run and protect the site, for example to stop one address making too many links or previews at once.
If you email me, I'll use your address and what you send only to reply and to help.
What I don't do
I don't sell or rent anything about you, and Boro has no ads.
Children
Boro isn't meant for children under 13.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top will change too.
